Gornji Grad se nahaja 50 km severovzhodno od Ljubljane, 70 % hribovite pokrajine pokriva gozd. Naseljen je bil že v rimski dobi, v 12. stoletju je bil tu ustanovljen benediktinski samostan. V 16. stoletju so postavili dvorec – poletno rezidenco ljubljanskih škofov, v 17. stoletju pa po prostornini največjo katedralo v Sloveniji. V obrambnem stolpu – Šteklu so muzejske zbirke, galerija in ob njem turistična pisarna, ki vam bo poleg informacij o vseh naravnih in kulturnih znamenitostih kraja in okolice ter o kolesarskih in pohodniških poteh, lahko posodila tudi električno kolo. Sproščeno bivanje na podeželju s pristnim stikom z naravo in vsem udobjem, ki ga nudi Gornji Grad (trgovina, restavracije in gostilne, pek, mesar…) je lahko tudi izhodišče za izlete po Sloveniji.
Gornji Grad is located 50 km northeast of Ljubljana, 70% of the hilly landscape is covered by forest. It was inhabited as early as the Roman era, and in the 12th century a Benedictine monastery was founded here. In the 16th century, a mansion –summer residence of the bishops of Ljubljana and in the 17th century, the largest cathedral in Slovenia in terms of volumewere erected. In the defensive tower – Štekl there are museum collections, a gallery and a tourist office next to it with all information about the natural and cultural sights of the town and its surroundings, cycling and hiking trails and the possibility of renting an electric bicycle. A relaxed stay in the countryside with authentic contact with nature and all the comforts that Gornji Grad offers (shop, restaurants and taverns, baker, butcher...) can also be a starting point for trips around Slovenia.
